The Firing went well, even with all the rain and a earthquake too! I heard on the radio that buildings were shaking in Ottawa and it was felt all over the area, However I only noticed it had reached Portland, by the fact that some pots had fallen over in the kiln.
One of the tumblers fell over and welded itself to a shelf, I get to keep it for myself as a memento to the earthquake firing.
Here is one of the large new planters from the kiln. I will post more photos on the website and facebook.

Kiln Fire

Rain, I always feel safer when firing in this weather. I am candling with a small fire for most of the day and then later this evening I will overnight with propane burners. Tommorow I get to fire full on for 20h in the rain as well. the ware always seems to turn out better with the wet weather.

I burned the remnants of a upright piano that was cut up by our friends, it was going to the dump but ended up in my Kiln. Mabe the work will have a musical flair!

Ok ,I know itts been a few months, but things were quite crazy for a while. We decided to take a chance and have a whole lot of wood delivered , so we could spend more time on potting rather than collecting fuel. I did not think it was going to be this much!
It took a few days to find a backhoe that I could use to move the wood into the back yard, Just in time, as I was moving it the fire marshal showed up to make sure I was not going to store the wood here all winter!
I find there is someting very comforting about having all this fuel near. I realize how much I was taking the fuel for granted when I was firing with gas.

Hey all this is my first blog!
With a wood Kiln the lead up to a firing always seems to start with gathering wood and getting the kiln furniture ready. With the work I make the finished look is entirely dependent on how the Kiln is loaded and the type and condition of the wood I burn. I hope to document the stages of producing my art in the upcoming blogs, from gathering wood to creating ware and ending with the opening of the Kiln after firing.
